World on the Web Beta Program Ending

A few months back, SpotON3D released a beta of its World on the Web Plug-in for Windows -- a revolutionary application which allows you to bypass the standalone browser, and to come directly into SpotON3D from inside of a web page. More recently, we issued a beta release of a Mac version of the plug-in. Both of these have been made available for everyone to use, directly from our web site and through our Facebook app.

During this beta phase, we have not take measures to restrict Web World access. That is, although you initially log in to SpotON3D, it has been possible to then log off and back into another virtual world, such as Second Life. Although we have permitted this up until now, the fact is that it took a great deal of time, effort and investment on our part to come up with a plug-in that provides a full client experience, something that no one else has been able to accomplish to date.

The World on a Web beta program is now approaching its end. As of January 5, 2012, access using our plug-in will be restricted to the SpotOn3D Network of Web Worlds. After that date, you will no longer be able to use the plug-in to access worlds which are not directly affiliated with SpotON3D.

If you have a particular project for which you'd like to continue using our World on the Web program after January 5, 2012, please get in touch with us at contact@spoton3d.com.

Meet Calypso Llewellyn and her Wonderful Hair!

Imaginative...stylish...brilliant. It's hard to come up with enough good adjectives to describe the products of Calypso Llewellen, a talented hair designer who recently brought her store "Hair Care" here to SpotON3D. If you go to her listings on SpotONSynergy, you will see page after page of styles to choose from, with more to come.

But it doesn't stop there. Besides traditional hair styles, Calypso has been working on some truly unique concepts for alternative hair...styles such as the teapot, hummingbird, and bunny (pictured below)!

I asked Calypso what the inspiration was for her more unusual designs. "I absolutely adore the weird and wonderful, and whilst scrolling through websites trying to find new ideas I came across this inventive idea of making realistic looking animal heads out of hair and wiremesh and making them into hair hats. Needless to say I found the idea fascinating and promptly started trying to figure out how I could incorporate this into virtual hair, and had the most wonderful fun doing so."

Calypso began making hair in Second Life about four years ago, in late 2007. Unable to find the styles that she wanted anywhere, she spent weeks learning how to build, adjust and shape, and finally managed to create what she had been searching for. She now has nearly 200 styles in circulation, and many more in the works. "I found that I had both the passion and the ability to build hair, and from then on I couldn't imagine doing anything else."

Besides making hair, Calypso enjoys scripting, which has helped her to create custom menu-driven systems for some of her hair. In real life, she is currently working on a degree and says that she loves a good horror story. But virtual worlds will always be an important part of her life. "The real world has its priorities, but my home, and my good friends, sad as it may be, are definately pixelated!"

We definitely are happy to have Calypso here, and look forward to seeing what she will come up with next!

Web World Genealogy Expo coming up Dec. 9-11, 2011

From December 9-11, we will be holding the first-ever Web World Genealogy Expo in our latest 3D Web World, Colony3D, which will give ancestry buffs a chance to meet and interact with each other. Colony3D is a Web World where families can come together to research their ancestry, share memories, and build their family trees, regardless of whether they are together in the same room or spread out across different countries.

As part of the Expo, we're putting together a "goodie bag" of contributions from our creators that we'll be handing out to attendees. If you are a creator, this is a perfect opportunity for you to get your name out there and to promote your business! The contribution can be whatever you want it to be...a quality freebie, a demo item, a catalog or display of your products, a buy-one-get-one-free coupon, or something else of your choosing. Just keep in mind that any submissions must be appropriate for all age groups.

We hope to see everyone at the Expo on December 9-11. We will be releasing more details as the date gets closer, and you can read more about it at http://www.colony3d.com. If you don't already have your SpotON3D Free4Ever account, you can pick it up by going to https://spoton3d.com. Then come join in on the excitement!

TerryLynn Melody is a singer/songwriter & acoustic guitar player, currently residing in Southwest Florida. Her musical influences lean towards roots music, spanning country, folk, rock and blues, R&B and POP. She performs original material and fresh arrangements of covers, both popular and eclectic.

“TerryLynn Melody shows a tremendous innate understanding of the essence of compelling song writing. From her heart and mind, lyrics and melodies flow that evoke the most warmly remembered sensibilities of modern American folk. Her songs are finely crafted but have a raw quality that is delivered with intelligence and captivating emotion“ - Otha Young - Grammy Winning songwriter - "The Sweetest Thing"

"TerryLynn is one of those gifted artists that lights up the stage....and when you listen to her velvet voice, all seems right at that moment in time." - Tracey Edwards - Host - Fox 4 TV's - The Morning Blend

TerryLynn joins enthusiasm with a keen sense of phrasing which is something essential for a vocalist…something she calls genuine. " ... "her two passions, words and music, would fuse together years later and make her one of the most sincere and influential songwriters today." - Yohanna de la Torre - Gulf Coast Time Magazine

SpotON3D @ Fearless Nation’s PTSD Awareness Event

SpotON3D is proud to be part of Fearless Nation’s third annual PTSD Awareness Event. At the “Be Fearless”-event, you will come across SpotON3D’s sponsor stand at the entry. The event runs from November 4th till November 13th in Second Life, and many of the metaverse’s most talented artists and performers will make this year’s edition another wonderful event by Fearless Nation.

We do hope you can come over and engage in this great cause. For this year’s program, check out Fearless Nation’s website at http://www.fearless-nation.org/EVENT2011.html

What’s it about?

Fearless Nation PTSD Support, the world's only nonprofit using virtual reality to help people with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), will hold its third annual PTSD education and awareness event from November 4 through 13. The "Be Fearless!" festival is a ten-day online event to educate the public about PTSD to banish stigma and misinformation about the condition. The event will feature informational resources about PTSD as well as live musicians, global DJs, art exhibits, interactive art and other activities.

The "Be Fearless!" event will open November 4th with a live lecture on PTSD given by Colleen M. Crary, M.A., Founder and Executive Director of Fearless Nation. She will present the latest research findings in trauma treatment and brain plasticity using easy-to-understand language and illustrations.

"This presentation is intended for trauma survivors, their loved ones, and anyone interested in PTSD," said Crary. "It will show how important it is for people with PTSD to receive the right treatment quickly, while also reminding everyone that there is hope for recovery and growth no matter how severe a person's original trauma."

The "Be Fearless!" festival will take place online in Second Life, the online virtual environment that allows users to create their own avatars and interact in a realistic 3D environment. The music performances will also be broadcast live over the Internet for those not in the virtual space. "Be Fearless!" and all other Fearless Nation informational events are free and open to the public.

"Operating online through virtual world environments like Second Life allows us to reach a large number of people worldwide at minimal cost while also providing a unique and non-threatening setting for trauma survivors," said Crary. "We are the only nonprofit offering  virtual-world services and education to people with PTSD and their families who might otherwise not be able to receive the support they need in their communities."

What’s on the schedule?

The art exhibition environments—curated by award-winning artist Eliza Wierwight, creator of Patron Gallery and Emporium—will feature 3D works by acclaimed international "Metaverse" (virtual world) artists such as Claudia222 Jewell, Glenn Fitzpatrick, Tricia Farella, Bryn Oh, Gwen Carillon, Starlash Sweetwater, and Scottius Polke. Interactive sculptures and art "toys" will allow attendees to immerse themselves in the art. Breathtaking 3D art can be experienced fully in 3D high definition.

Live musicians Jordan Reyne and TwinGhost Ronas will be performing live during the festival. Jordan Reyne is an internationally acclaimed recording artist, whose music was heard in the "Lord of the Rings" movies and whose new album, "Children of a Factory Nation," has just been released. TwinGhost Ronas hails from Philadelphia, USA; his distinctly powerful original compositions and eclectic covers mix blues, folk, rock and a lot of soul. "Both Jordan and TwinGhost have been staunch supporters for PTSD awareness, education and support and we are glad to have them back to Fearless Nation for this event," says Crary.

DJs from around the globe will be mixing live sets from all genres of music, notably the incomparable and uncompromising Coca Supercharge (UK), Tink Toll (Ireland), Susan Mowadeng (USA), Kalia Ivory (Switzerland), Chanya Andel (UK), Viktor Galli (Belgium), Zola Bertrand (USA) and many more will fill the air with music to keep you moving and grooving.

Several event sponsors will also be showcased, displaying their wares and services, some of which will be interactive. Top Sponsors featured are Tenderlove, Zapp Club, SpotOn3D, Platt Communications, and Luna Bliss Creations.
